Workforce Spotlight: Brian Golec – Senior IS Support Technician

Brian and the seven other IS support technicians each support approximately 580 devices throughout the health system. “I am amazed at the work this team continues to churn out, and Brian is a huge part of their continued effort,” said Brian’s manager, Jim Hartsook.
In 2021, Brian received his 15-year Service Award. Since joining the organization in 2006, he has worked all that time in IS. He started out supporting what was then called Physicians Practice Organization Inc., which later became Columbus Regional Health Physicians (CRHP). When CRHP became part of the health system, he moved over to the hospital, but continued to support all areas of the health system, which he does today.
Brian enjoys the challenges of the work. “I like supporting end users and making sure whatever I do – fixing an issue, or installing something new – gets done correctly,” he said. One common request he’ll handle is replacing Windows 7 machines with Windows 10, but the work varies each day. “No one day is the same, which is nice,” Brian said.
In his role, Brian helps troubleshoot and fix issues over the phone and via remote desktop management, which allows the technicians to access a workforce member’s computer remotely to help fix an issue. If the issue is hardware-related, however, he and the technicians go to wherever that hardware is to address it.
Over the last 15 years, one highlight that stands out to Brian was the Epic electronic medical record installation. He was involved in replacing the computers at the practices. Another significant project he worked on was when the practices transitioned from their own computer network domain to the CRH domain, which he described as “long hours and challenging, but good.” He added: “I enjoy what I’m doing. I enjoy the people.”
We’re glad you’re part of the CRH team, Brian, and thank you for helping to keep our health system running smoothly!
